Today we wanted to discuss the many benefits that our first aid courses have to offer. Helping Hands Training Specialists has a number of first aid courses depending on your needs or your function as either a business/company, an institution such as a school or pretty much anything else! Our First Aid At work course perhaps offers the most general yet comprehensive content for your place of work, but we also provide courses on Emergency First Aid, Paediatric First Aid, First Aid For Schools and Basic Life Support & AED. The below guide will be able to assist you in finding what best meets your requirements, but if you are not sure of the most apt course for you, you can always contact us.
Providing instruction on how to employ both basic first aid, and for emergency situations, this is one of our most popular training courses. As a three day course, we combine theoretical knowledge with practical application. Day 1 looks at scene surveys, applying CPR, responding to unconscious people, choking, shock, wounds, bleeding and seizures. On day 2, we look at some more complicated scenarios to respond to, such as hypoxia and anaphylaxis, asthma and hyperventilation, drowning, chest injuries, heart problems, fractures and soft tissue injuries, before finishing it off by assessing burns and electrical injury. Day 3 has a slight focus on remaining injuries that we have not covered including strokes, diabetes and poisoning, before culminating in a knowledge assessment that gives you, and/or your employees an official qualification certified by Worksafe Training Systems. Please note that due to the physical nature of this course, a degree of fitness is required in being able to demonstrate practical proficiency. The qualification conforms to all of the document titled HSE ACOP L74.
This course will enable you and your staff to be able to respond to the more life threatening scenarios that your workplace could face, as well as being able to heal minor injuries until emergency workers are able to arrive at the scene. As a one day course, we condense the more life threatening aspects such as applying CPR, choking, responding to shock, wounds, bleeding and seizures. In this course we provide more scenarios, and an opportunity for self assessment prior to course completion. Upon completion of this course participants will have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to be able to competently respond to emergency and life threatening situations.
Paediatric First Aid
Our two day course on applying paediatric first aid meets HSE and Ofsted criteria for early years and playground settings, making it the perfect course for teachers, childcare and support workers. With primary and secondary surveys to identify issues, we look at applying CPR to adults, as well as children to understand the differences in pressure. We also cover seizures, croup, asthma and anaphylaxis. Day two focuses on many issues raised in first aid, but for your convenience; shock, wounds and bleeding, poisoning, burns, hot and cold injuries. As a paediatric course, we also look at child specific illnesses such as sickle cell and meningitis, before culminating with a self assessment. This course covers all topics touched on in emergency first aid training with a more specialised focus on paediatric adaptations and the injuries and illness most likely to encountered whilst working with children and babies.
Meeting all of Ofsted’s standards in a day course, this looks at all of the minor injuries mentioned in the Paediatric first aid course. One difference is looking at common illnesses in children, and being able to respond to life saving situations in a school setting. Upon completion, this course will allow school staff to respond to life saving and minor first aid instances in their school settings as well as understanding the legal requirements of accident and injury reporting specific to schools.
As a 3 hour course, here we look at the fundamentals of how to apply CPR and help familiarise you with the use of defibrillators/AED units. We briefly also touch on choking, and anatomy of the heart. If you are looking to cover the absolute basics, this course is for you. This course is designed to impart the basic knowledge and practical skills needed to be able to potentially save a life - a course we should all attend!
Hopefully this guide has given you an insight into precisely what the differences are between our courses, and inspire you to take the leap and learn about these important topics and have the potential to save a life! All of our courses in first aid require no previous experience or knowledge of the subject. Please note that due to the physical components of these courses, we are currently unable to offer them online or as virtual workshops.
