Meet Our Training Manager: Philip Hazlehurst

In our last blog on 'Our story', we were first introduced to one of the founders, Philip Hazlehurst. Today, we thought we’d go more into the origins of his incredible journey that greatly contributed to the formation of Helping Hands Training Specialists, and the wide array of training courses that we are able to offer as a one stop shop for in person training courses and online courses as well as virtual workshops. Lets jump straight in!

Moving from the Wirral to Sheffield, Philip’s initial passion for working to improve the training and operational standards of the social care sector originated from supporting his own son with special needs. Beginning as a Senior Support Worker in 2002, Phil developed his passion for working with children with special needs, alongside managing a sibling support group, for siblings of children with special needs, full time! Quite the change from previously serving in the British Army, but he still somehow found time for his interests in Engineering and supporting Everton FC!

During this time, he meticulously built up his knowledge of training courses, working as an Adult instructor for Sheffield City Council, and rising to hold his own NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care with a specialisation in children with special needs.

In January 2011, Philip moved to the Burton Street Foundation to become their new training manager where he was responsible for the design and delivery of various training courses for their staff including MAPA, TeamTeach and Paediatric First Aid, before taking the leap to found Helping Hands Training Specialists in early 2021. Holding instructor qualifications from a number of accrediting bodies and companies, he was able to build substantial contacts across the sector which have now become invaluable in sourcing any courses for our clients in the rare event that Helping Hands Training Specialists are unable to do so- reinforcing our commitment to being a 'one stop shop' for all social care training needs. "If we don't deliver the course that you are looking for, we will work with our partners to find it for you."

Holding instructor qualifications in Moving and Handling, First Aid, Administration of Medication, Children's Safeguarding, Adult Safeguarding, Anaphylaxis Awareness, Epilepsy Awareness, Administration of Rescue Medication, Fire warden and Fire Marshall courses, Philip is one of the most active and experienced course providers that Helping Hands Training Specialists has to offer.

And after years of meticulous research, he has even developed his own courses for Health and Safety, Autism Awareness and Food Safety, so it was not surprising when he received an Award for Education and Training in 2015 by the Advance Training Academy. Today as a result, we provide even more extensive and in depth courses, accredited by the CPD Group, that will serve to meet all of your personal and professional training needs!
